METRO: WMATA's Web site says Metro will operate on a Sunday schedule on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, from 7 a.m. to midnight, and will open one hour early at 4 a.m., on Friday "in anticipation of Black Friday, traditionally one of the busiest shopping days of the holiday season."

MARYLAND: The Maryland State Highway Administration reports that "major delays and significant congestion are expected over the next several days along northbound I-95 in Maryland, particularly on Wednesday...all non-emergency roadwork on SHA-maintained roadways will be suspended between Wednesday, November 24 at 9 a.m. and Monday morning, Nov. 29."

VIRGINIA: The Virginia Department of Transportation reports that temporary lane closures in place for construction or maintenance will be removed from noon on Wednesday until noon on Monday, but "any permanent construction barriers will remain in place."

Also, the department's Web site predicts, based on data from the last few years, that "the heaviest traffic volume on the interstate system will likely occur from noon and 8 p.m. on the day before Thanksgiving." And the heaviest traffic on the return trip is expected to be on Sunday afternoon.
