Defeated But Not Deterred: Md. Congressman Considers Run In 2012
Fresh off losing his Maryland congressional seat by more than 13 percentage points, Democrat Frank Kratovil is considering another run in 2012.
"All options are still on the table" for Kratovil, according to his spokesperson, and that may mean he'll throw his hat in the 1st District race in two years.
After serving just one term, the moderate Kratovil told a local newspaper his loss was due more to the president and Speaker Nancy Pelosi than to his own job performance. Paul Herrnson, who directs the Center for American Politics at the University of Maryland, says Kratovil may have a chance in the next cycle.
"This was a wave election and lots of people got washed out, but when the wave recedes, the sea creatures that were left behind may have similar problems and get washed out in the next election," he says.
Andy Harris, the Republican who beat Kratovil, could not be reached for comment. Harris ran on cutting taxes and repealing and replacing the Democrat's new health care law.
