(Nov. 18-Jan. 2) A TALE OF TWO CAROLS As we descend upon December, the District abounds with Christmas. You have your pick of at least two distinct Christmas Carols this season: Ebenezer Scrooge begins to plumb his past, present, and future with harmony tonight in A Broadway Christmas Carol at Alexandria's MetroStage. And come Saturday, the purists can get their traditional Dickens at Ford's Theatre in Northwest Washington.
(Nov. 18) WASTE LAND Visual artist Vik Muniz stepped away from the contemporary art world a couple of years ago to help make Waste Land. The documentary was praised at this year's Sundance Film Festival for its uplifting portrayal of garbage-pickers at the world's largest landfill. Waste Land screens tonight at 8 at the Hirshhorn Museum on the National Mall.
(Nov. 19-May 8) A FABLE FOR TOMORROW And a stone's throw from Waste Land is A Fable for Tomorrow, opening...tomorrow at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. The exhibit surveys the often-epic paintings of Alexis Rockman, who has been depicting the natural world with wit and wizardry for two decades.
