Liquor and wine stores owned by Maryland's Montgomery County will soon be open for business.

Montgomery County already allows Sunday alcohol sales in privately owned beer and wine stores and in restaurants. Beginning Nov. 21, county liquor and wine stores will be open on Sundays from noon to 6 p.m. for a six-month trial period.

During that time, the county's Department of Liquor Control plans to monitor revenues and the effect that opening the stores will have on privately-owned businesses.

County leaders say they're offering extended hours as a convenience to customers, as Sundays are traditionally one of the busiest retail shopping days of the week.
