"Art Beat" with Sabri Ben-Achour:

(Nov. 5-Dec. 4) MIND, SET, MATCH Three minds collaborated to produce Mind Sets, opening today at the Montpelier Arts Center in Laurel, Maryland. The trio of visual artists map out the cavernous synapses, neurons, and nodes of the human brain with sculptures, manipulated images, and digital prints. You can enjoy even more food for thought at a reception on Sunday afternoon.

(Nov. 5-7) VIRGINIA FILM FESTIVAL The 23rd annual Virginia Film Festival brings lectures, shorts, documentaries, premieres, and a couple of classics to the University of Virginia in Charlottesville this weekend. This year, the festival spends extra time on productions from the Commonwealth and international submissions.

(Nov. 6) IKEBANA AT THE ARBORETUM The trees of The National Arboretum will continue to bear the fiery mantle of Autumn that is fall foliage, for a few days longer at least until Nature takes its course. And while there, Saturday morning you can see an ikebana demonstration. That’s the Japanese art of flower arrangement where shape, form, and minimalism are more important than showy blooms.

(Nov. 7) PICKING PARTY And The DC Bluegrass Union throws a Picking Party this weekend. You can bring your buds and banjos to Frying Pan Park in Herndon, Virginia Sunday afternoon.
