The shooting at the Coast Guard Recruiting Station in Woodbridge, Va., marks the fifth time that a shot or shots have been reported at military facilities in the Washington area.

The FBI is linking a shooting at a U.S. Coast Guard recruiting office in Woodbridge, Va., to four other similar incidents at military-related buildings in the Washington area.

The FBI says "all five incidents are linked" because "the weapon matches" in all of the incidents. FBI spokeswoman Lindsay Godwin is not releasing details about the type or caliber of the weapon.

But investigators previously said it appeared that the shots were fired from a high-powered rifle. An unknown gunman first took aim on the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, Va., in mid-October. At least 10 rounds hit the building.

A few days later, five to seven shots were fired at the Pentagon. The gunman next shot at a Marine Corps recruiting station in Chantilly, Va., before again targeting the museum, which is associated with the Quantico Marine Base.

The most recent shooting was discovered on Tuesday morning at the Coast Guard recruiting office.

Because three shootings were at Marine Corps buildings, the FBI has been working on the assumption they were the work of someone who may have been part of the Marine Corps who has a grudge.
