In Maryland, Gov. Martin O'Malley has been elected to a second term in office.
A visibly moved O'Malley took the stage to raucous cheers, after which he thanked his family, supporters and the countless number of Democratic politicians who joined him onstage. One name he never mentioned: his twice vanquished opponent, former Republican Gov. Bob Ehrlich. But O'Malley did thank those who voted for Ehrlich for going to the polls.
"In these difficult times, there will be public policy issues that we disagree about," he said. "And that's natural. But at the end of the day, we are all in this together."
As he did four years ago, O'Malley did well in the D.C. suburbs and the city of Baltimore. But unlike 2006, he edged out his opponent in Ehrlich's home base of Baltimore County.
