Maryland Constitutional Convention Remains In Question

Maryland's constitutional convention ballot question appears to be short of the support needed to hold a convention so far, but the question remains unclear with tens of thousands of absentee and provisional ballots still to be counted.

With nearly all precincts reporting on Wednesday, almost 55 percent of people who voted on the question supported holding a constitutional convention, compared to 45 percent who voted against it.

But there is a high threshold for approval.

To pass, the ballot question would need a majority from all voters who cast ballots in the election, not just a majority of those who voted on the issue alone. The question comes up on the ballot once every 20 years.
