Voter Turnout Could Be Key In Md. Gubernatorial Race

Turnout at this polling place at Old Mill High School in Millersville has been steady this evening, aided by the contentious ballot question over whether a slot machine casino will be built at Arundel Mills Mall.

Republican gubernatorial nominee Bob Ehrlich scored his biggest victory in Anne Arundel County four years ago when he was defeated by Democrat Martin O'Malley, and a strong turnout in this Republican-leaning county could help him recapture the governor's mansion.

Statewide, early turnout was slightly below average for a gubernatorial election.

O'Malley's campaign manager sent out an email to supporters this evening urging them to vote, saying turnout was low in a few key counties that are critical to the governor's re-election hopes.
