Virginia's 11th District Race Is Too Tough To Call Early

In Virginia's 11th Congressional District, the contest between Republican Keith Fimian and Rep. Gerry Connolly (D) has attracted national attention.

At 5:20 p.m. it was still quiet at the Fairview Park Marriott in Falls Church, where Connolly's campaign party will take place.

What makes this race even more interesting to political observers is the fact that it's a rematch.

Connolly defeated businessman Fimian two years ago for the 11th District's seat in the House, but the political atmosphere has certainly changed since then.

The district covers much of Fairfax County and parts of Prince William County, and is sandwiched between a reliably Republican district and a reliably Democratic district. That in part is why it's so difficult to predict the outcome this year.

Obviously for these supporters, the hope is that at the end of what looks to be a big night for Republicans across the country Keith Fimian can pull out this race. This is the second try for Fimian--Connolly defeated him two years ago. But the political landscape has changed since then.
