Virginia Sees Republican Gains

Play associated audio

Results are still trickling in from Virginia's election but Republicans seem to have the momentum.

Republicans have succeeded in ousting 14-term Congressman Rick Boucher in Virginia's 9th District. Morgan Griffin picked up the victory in that western district which hasn't been represented by a Republican since the 1980s.

Incumbent Democrats Tom Perriello and Glenn Nye were also defeated in the 5th and 2nd Districts. The winners there were Republicans Robert Hurt and Scott Riggell.

The Northern Virginia race for the 11th District is still too close to call. Republican challenger Keith Fimian is currently a couple points ahead of Democrat Gerry Connolly in that race for now.
