Moran faced retired Army Colonel Patrick Murray, who waged a conservative challenge to the liberal-leaning congressman from Northern Virginia.

Unlike many Democrats throughout the country, Moran strenuously defended the stimulus package and the health care reform. Voters in the 8th Congressional District responded enthusiastically, handing Moran a victory in the vast majority of precincts across the district, which spans from Mount Vernon through Alexandria and Arlington into Reston.

Moran says he had no regrets about the last two years, even if it cost the party at the ballot box in other races throughout the country.
