(Oct. 28) READY! SET! DC! Halloween finds a lot of folks thinking about what they’re going to wear. What better time to have a fashion show? ReadysetDC strikes while the iron’s hot with fashion:distrct tonight at STROGA in Adams Morgan. The event corrals local designers, artists, and boutiques for an evening of fashion in the name of supporting local business. DC electronic-dance duo Bluebrain scores the runway.

(Oct. 28) FUNNIES UP FOR AUCTION And if you support funnies over fashion, Cartoons & Cocktails is likely the fundraiser for you. PBS NewsHour’s Hari Sreenivasan and other winsome auctioneers present over 100 editorial cartoons to the highest bidder at the National Press Club in Northwest Washington tonight at 6. The work of the nation’s top editorial cartoonists are up on the auction block to benefit Young D.C., the independent newspaper by and for teenagers and the Cartoonists Rights Network International, which assists cartoonists facing persecution for their commentary.

One of them, the 1927 silent comedy Upstream) was recently found in New Zealand of all places. It tells the tale of a Shakespearian actor and a woman from a knife-throwing act tonight at 7 at Washington’s National Archives.
