RICHMOND, Va. (AP) The director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement says localities can't opt out of a federal program to identify illegal immigrants using fingerprints from arrests. ICE Director John Morton says the agency's agreement for the Secure Communities program is with the state, not the individual localities.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) State and federal officials have arrested 15 illegal immigrants who were convicted of sexual offenses in Virginia and Washington, D.C., and identified another 365 behind bars who will be deported once they serve their sentence. The operation comes two years after a similar initiative that removed 171 convicted illegal immigrant sex offenders from Virginia.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) Federal disaster grants awarded to Virginia to help recovery efforts following two winter storms has topped $28.4 million. The Federal Emergency Management Agency says most of the funding was awarded to pay for protective measures.

HAMPTON, Va. (AP) NASA has launched an ambitious mission to bring hundreds of space agency staffers to thousands of classrooms. NASA's Langley Research Center began its education mission today, with staffers visiting schools in the Hampton Roads area.
