In Virginia, state and federal officials have arrested 15 illegal immigrants who were convicted of sexual offenses in the Commonwealth and the District.
The 15 illegal immigrants were arrested as part of Operation SOAR (Sexual Offender Alien Removal). All of them had been convicted of sex crimes and some of them were found guilty of committing crimes against children or teens.
In addition to the arrests, officials have also identified another 365 illegal immigrants who are currently behind bars. They will be deported once they serve their sentences.
The arrests were announced today by Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, as well as officials from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency and Virgina's attorney general.
The operation comes two years after a similar initiative removed 171 convicted illegal immigrant sex offenders from Virginia.
