(September 16-19) CABARET TAKES CENTER STAGE Baltimore’s Center Stage revels in all things camp tonight through Sunday as it kicks off its new season of cabaret with Colored Lights. Broadway veteran KT Sullivan stars in the jaunty tale of a singer’s ups and downs on her journey from the sticks to Broadway, a narrative arc close to home for the Oklahoma native.

(September 17-18) MOVEMENT CONSPIRACY

You s hould probably turn off your cellphones for Please Turn Off Your Cell Phones. It’s actually a trenchant examination of rural existence via dance, put on by Updraft, an aerial dance company based in the Upper Shenandoah valley region of Appalachia. Dancers employ trapeze, bungee, aerial fabric, and their voices to examine the perceptions and misperceptions of rural communities. It’s running at Baltimore’s Theatre Project Friday and Saturday nights at 8.

(September 18) HAMIET BLUIETT BIRTHDAY Jazz Artist Hamiet Bluiett celebrates his 70th birthday doing what he does best at DC’s Bohemian Caverns Saturday afternoon from 2-5. He’s been called the living jazz master of the baritone sax and he’ll be performing with his Split Second Orchestra.

(September 19) OPERA IN THE OUTFIELD Washington National Opera brings drama to the masses this Sunday afternoon at Nationals Park. This year’s Opera in the Outfield brings a live simulcast of Verdi’s A Masked Ball straight to the diamond at 2.
