This Sunday the Six Flags amusement park in Bowie, Maryland will host Muslim Family Day.

It's a day of fun and rides for families celebrating the Islamic holiday Eid al-Fitr which starts today.

Amer Tobing and his three daughters - all residents of Gaithersburg, Maryland - can't wait to go to Six Flags I think there's some water rides there, cotton candy, funnel cakes if they have them.

They're celebrating Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, a holy month where Muslims fast and pray daily.

Six Flags will help mark the day with prayer spaces and Halal food.

"Muslims are just normal people who like to enjoy themselves as well," Tobing says.

This year Eid starts one day before September 11th.

Naeem Baig, of the Islamic Circle of North America, which organizes Muslim Family Day, says his group made a conscious decision not to hold it on Saturday.

He says it's a painful day for Americans...and Muslim Family Day organizers.

"One of the organizing team members also died in the World Trade Center," Baig says.

Tariq Amanullah helped start Muslim Family Day in 2000. But he was killed in Tower 2 on September 11.

Baig says he thinks Amanullah would be proud to know that 60-thousand people across the nation are expected to attend Muslim Family Day this year.
