Busy Saturday On The National Mall

In the District, residents should expect long lines tomorrow for Metro and shifting traffic patterns because of several rallies that will be held around the National Mall.

Fox Television personality Glenn Beck is holding a rally at the Lincoln Memorial with former Alaska governor Sarah Palin. The location and timing are causing some controversy.

The rally falls on the 47th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior's "I Have A Dream" speech given at the same spot. Many are upset with the conservative Beck for holding the rally on the anniversary, as they view some of his political beliefs to be in direct contrast with those of the slain civil rights leader. So in response, there will be at least two counter rallies.

Beck says it's just a coincidence that his rally will be held on the anniversary of King's speech, saying the event is a way to "reclaim the civil rights movement." In the past, Beck has called president Obama a racist, saying he believes the President has a deep-seated hatred for white people and their culture.
