More than nine months into Virginia's ban on smoking in restaurants, police say they have issued their first citations under the law.
Ten people were stopped in a crackdown on smoking at restaurants in Falls Church this week.
Responding to months of complaints, police in Falls Church say they cited six smokers for lighting up at a group of Vietnamese restaurants in Eden Center over the weekend.
Four restaurant owners were also cited for allowing smoking in their establishments.
Police say the restaurant owners and their patrons had been warned several times that smoking is now against the law.
Violators can face $25 fines.
