In Maryland, there are five Democratic candidates running for the office of Prince George’s County State’s Attorney.

Today, one of those candidates, Angela Alsobrooks received a key endorsement.

When the current county state’s attorney Glenn Ivey announced his retirement from the office he says he never intended to become involved with the election of his successor.

This afternoon, he says he changed his mind.

“I thought we needed the right person, with the right face, and the right message to carry that job forward, and that’s why I’ve decided to support Angela Alsobrooks for State’s Attorney," Ivey said.

Alsobrooks, a 39-year old former prosecutor, is a native of Prince George’s County.

She’s also the current Executive Director of the County’s Revenue Authority.

Alsobrooks says her depth of experience as a litigator and administrator, is her advantage.

"The State’s Attorney’s office after all is an agency so the combination of the two make me very well suited to the office," she says.

There are no Republican challengers, so the winner of the September 14th primary will assume the office in 2011.
