The D.C. mayor's race will go down as the most expensive campaign in District history.
The two top candidates, D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty and D.C. City Council Chairman Vincent Gray continue to rake in huge sums of cash, and Fenty is starting to spend some of that money.
Campaign finance records show Fenty spent nearly $2 million dollars in the past two months. Most of that was spent on TV ads.
Fenty still holds a major edge in the total amount of money raised: he has about three times as much cash on hand as Gray.
But the city council chairman is closing the gap. For the second straight reporting period, Gray out-raised the mayor. His campaign hauled in $700,000, more than double what Fenty raised.
