By Sabri Ben-Achour

Metro was going to raise fares Monday.

By 25 cents if you use a paper card instead of a smart trip card, and 20 cents more for everyone during afternoon rush hour 4:30 to 6 pm and after midnight on friday and saturday nights.

But those changes will wait till Tuesday while Metro installs signs to make the changes clearer.

Metro is raising rates to cover a $189 million budget deficit brought on by the recession.

And there are more fare increases coming at the end of the month for morning rush hour.

The price of smart trip cards will be cut in half to $2.50.
