Broadway hopefuls are belting out show tunes in Arlington Virginia today, all for a chance to become the next Signature Idol.
There's no sign of Simon Cowell in the lobby of the Signature Theatre, but the room is packed with hundreds of people enjoying the venue's annual open house.
"It's just great, cause we expose all these people to musical theater, and all the great talent that's in Washington," says Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer.
He's one of the judges for the Signature Idol Competition. Ten local finalists are competing today, and they'll be judged on more than just singing ability.
"So hopefully there's a beginning, a middle and an end, and we go on a journey with these performers," says Schaeffer. "So we're going to be looking at all three: the singing, the acting, and how they interpret the song."
The winner will perform tonight at Signature Theatre's Open House Finale Concert on the plaza at Shirlington Village.
