A mild earthquake struck our region this morning.

The epicenter, according to seismologists at the U.S. Geological Survey was near German town/Gaithersburg area in Maryland.

A preliminary report by the USGS says the quake registered as a magnitude 3.6.

Many people in Maryland, D.C., and even Virginia felt the tremors and heard the rumbling this morning.

Rod Hasty lives in the palisades neighborhood of Northwest D.C.

"I heard the noise, I heard what sounded like a train or a large truck running as if it were in my front yard. The house didn't shake, it felt more like a wave," says Hasty.

Hasty says when he looked outside he saw at least one car alarm going off.

The last earthquake reported in our area, was in Northern Virginia two years ago.

That quake registered as a magnitude 2.0.
