The effort to reform D.C.'s public schools under school's chancellor Michelle Rhee has suffered a setback, as test scores dropped for elementary school students in the District.

Despite a press release announcing "overall progress after three years of reform" the latest standardized test scores show a four and a half point drop in math and reading for elementary students. These were not the results Rhee was hoping for.

"So you are going to have some times where you have setbacks, you have to again redouble your efforts during those points and you are going to have to move forward," says Rhee.

The chancellor says she was encouraged by rising test scores for middle school and high school students in math and reading. She stressed both elementary school students and secondary school students have overall made major gains since Rhee took over the system in 2007.
