July 4th Weekend Another Record Breaker For VA State Parks

The July 4th weekend was another record-breaker for Virginia's state parks. The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation says state parks drew almost 267,000 visitors; that's almost 50,000 more than last year.

David Johnson is the conservation and recreation director. He attributes the increase to warm, dry weather and improvements such as more cabins and activities.

Attendance over the Memorial Day weekend also broke a record.

Overall, state park attendance is up 8 percent for the first six months of 2010, compared to last year.
