PAT BROGAN: A Code Red Air Quality alert is in effect for the region today -- and residents are being encouraged to avoid outside activities.

It's the first Code Red for the Washington region in 2 years.

Joining us now to help us understand what these alerts mean and how they're calculated -- is Jennifer Desimone. She's an air quality specialist with Clean Air Partners.
