Senator Ben Cardin of Maryland is leading a Congressional Delegation to Oslo, Norway, this week to participate in the annual session of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Parlaimentary Assembly.

The group will also make a side-trip to a cluster of islands in the Arctic Circle.

The Assembly has an ambitious agenda. The theme is "Rule of Law: Combating Transnational Crime and Corruption," and resolutions range from nuclear security to combating human trafficking.

The Congressional Delegation will also stop in Svalbard, Norway - in the northernmost part of the country.

Members are to examine a global seed vault there -- which preserves more than 400 million types of seeds from all over the world.

It's intended to be a safeguard for future crop diversity.
