There are many Fourth of July Parades across the region today, but one long running celebration in Maryland stands out.

Lawn chairs line Maple Avenue in Takoma Park as kids wave American flags and eat ice cream. It's a scene that's been going on for 121 years now.

Today's parade included floats, and marching bands, and visiting politicians like Maryland Governor, Martin O'Malley.

"It's a great day because we have a great country and the greatest thing about it, is the neighbors that we're able to celebrate this day with," the governor says.

"We're a strong people, a people that always has to move forward and that's what we do as Marylanders, that's what we do as Americans, and that's why the Fourth of July is such a great day."

Takoma Park's Independence Day celebration continues this afternoon with a community barbeque hosted by former NBA star Steve Francis, he grew up here.

Tonight, there'll be a concert and fireworks over Takoma Park Middle School.
