Virginia's Governor Bob McDonnell is hoping to attract more trucking firms to title and register their fleets in the Commonwealth.

McDonnell issued a proclamation this week that expedites the safety inspection process for commercial motor vehicles traveling on Virginia's highways.

His office says the Commonwealth will now recognize federally authorized safety inspection programs, a move aimed at bringing more truck registration fees to Virginia.

It currently costs at least $23 to register any non-passenger vehicle in Virginia, depending on the weight of the truck.

McDonnell says he's eliminating layers of duplicate federal and state mandates.

The change gives trucking companies flexibility to keep fleets safely moving from state to state without stopping at a Virginia inspection station every year.
