The Folklife Festival is up and running during its 44th year on the National Mall.

Spokesperson Becky Haberacker says three programs round out this year's festival.

"The Mexico program - in addition to tequila-making, music, dancing, crafts," she says. "And we also have 'Asian-Pacific Americans: Local Lives, Global Ties,' a look at Asian-Pacific communities with folks here from Washington."

And the third: an exhibit dedicated to the Smithsonian's workers.

"I think a lot of people come down to the Mall and say, 'Oh great! The museums open themselves, clean themselves.' We talk a little bit about how you maintain the nearly 700 buildings the Smithsonian has all over the world. It's actually the work of about six thousand people," Haberacker says.

Until July 5th the Smithsonian's workers will be concerning themselves with the million visitors they'll see at the Folklife Festival.
