With the Virginia primaries out of the way, Republicans in Virginia are eager for the fall election season.

Alexandria Republicans gathered for a raucous victory party at Pat Troy’s Irish pub in Alexandria, celebrating the victory of former diplomat Patrick Murray over attorney Matthew Berry. Spirits are strong for Republicans who think this is their year. Restaurateur Pat Troy says the GOP should be able to capitalize on voter discontent.

“Too much is going on. The country is upset. It gets more upset every day with Pelosi and Reid. I think they are going to lose, and I think the people are going to speak," says Troy.

Many of the Republicans say they think Obama’s health care plan and the federal response to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico could provide the opportunity they need to unseat a Democratic Congress. Keith Nahagian says he thinks Republicans are looking forward to an off-year election with different rules.

"Everything’s up. If Ted Kennedy’s seat is up, anything is up," says Nahagian.

Republicans have targeted a handful of Virginia seats, including the one held by Congressman Gerry Connolly, who will face Republican Keith Fimian in the fall.
