With the Capital Pride celebration days away, a new clinic for gay, bisexual and transgendered Latino Youth has opened in Mount Pleasant.
The clinic is La Clinica del Pueblo’s new youth center. It's called "Mpoderate," Spanish for empowerment. Manual Diaz is the clinic's program manager.
"It's the first time that there is a youth health center for young Latinos in Washington D.C.," says Diaz.
Angel Espinoza-Efuyo says it's about time. He says Mpoderate will finally allow for parents of gay and transgender youth to openly discuss issues of sexuality.
"The next process is to invite the parents, even to get them educated and just get them to be aware that not all the kids are going to live orgy lives everyday you know, they live a decent life," says Espinoza-Efuyo.
The youth center will focus on HIV/AIDS. In the District, the disease is growing fastest among gay, bisexual and transgender Latino youth.
