Area Events Commemorate Memorial Day

Several events are planned around the region to commemorate this Memorial Day.

At the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, there will be a ceremony at one paying tribute to six servicemen whose names were recently added to the wall.

Other activities include storytelling at the Vietnam Women's Memorial. And the national Memorial Day parade makes its way along Constitution and Virginia avenues, starting at 2. Several streets in that are will be closed for the parade.

In Virginia, Gov. Bob McDonnell is scheduled to speak at the Fredericksburg National Cemetery Memorial Day Commemoration.

Meanwhile, Maryland's Gov. Martin O'Malley is paying tribute to his state's fallen soldiers with a visit to a veterans cemetery in western Maryland at the Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery.
