WASHINGTON (AP) City officials say D.C. Council Chairman and mayoral candidate Vincent C. Gray must reduce the height of his fence or move it to his property line.
Gray faced fines for not filing a public-space permit application for a 6-foot-high aluminum fence he built around his house in 2008. The D.C. Department of Transportation said last month that it would mail a citation notice to him until the matter was resolved.
Gray's spokeswoman said he had submitted the necessary paperwork.
Mayor Adrian Fenty spokeswoman Mafara Hobson said Thursday that D.C. officials approved his application with modifications. Hobson says those include either reducing the fence to the legal size of 3.5 feet or relocating the fence to the property line.
She says he has 30 days to comply.
