Adventist Healthcare is pushing back as its rival tries to build a new hospital in the upper part of Montgomery County, Maryland. This week, Holy Cross Hospital unveiled its plans to build a hospital on Montgomery College's Germantown campus. The proposal would allow the school to double it's nursing program, which is one of its major selling points.
Adventist CEO Bill Robertson doesn't see it as an advantage, saying their hospitals already employ many of Montgomery Colleges nursing students.
"They have in the nursing area around 40 clinical rotations going on at any one time. And we provide more than 50 percent of those. So we don't believe having a hospital on the campus is necessary for us to participate, because we're already proving we're participating extensively with Montgomery College," says Robertson.
Adventist wants to build a hospital in Clarksburg on land it owns just off of I-270. A state commission will make the final decision.
