Throughout Memorial Day weekend the orange line of the Metrorail system will be closed between the East Falls Church and West Falls Church Metro stations. Construction crews will be working on the Metrorail extension to Dulles Airport.

"It is work that has to get done, and it needs to get done," says Metro spokesperson Steve Taubenkibel.

He says the closure should only affect a few thousand riders.

"We're trying to get this work out of the way before the July 4th weekend, when we do see high ridership," he says. "So Memorial Day weekend: not a particularly busy weekend for us."

The orange line closure will also be in effect for the two weekends following Memorial Day weekend.
