A University of Virginia men's lacrosse player has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a women's lacrosse player at the school.

22-year-old George Huguely, of Chevy Chase, Maryland, is a graduate of the Landon School in Bethesda. Huguely has been charged in the death of his classmate Yeardley Love of Cockeysville, Maryland, a graduate of Notre Dame Preparatory School in Baltimore.

Police in Charlottesville, Virginia say they were called to an off-campus apartment early Monday morning, where they found Love dead with obvious physical injuries. Police say Love and Huguely were in a relationship at some point, and Huguely quickly became the focus of the investigation.

He is being held in the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.

Both students were scheduled to graduate later this month.
