President Obama has nominated Maryland's Commissioner of Financial Regulation to the Federal Reserve Board.

Sarah Raskin was appointed Maryland Commissioner of Financial Regulation in 2007. She previously served as counsel to the Senate Banking Committee.

Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley (D) is praising Mr. Obama's selection, saying that Raskin's leadership in Maryland "will serve her well" on the national level.

O'Malley calls Raskin an "exceptional partner" in his effort to bring middle-class families through the foreclosure crisis.

Raskin is married to Maryland state Senator Jamie Raskin, a Democrat from Montgomery County.

Her nomination is subject to Senate approval.
