Defense contractor Northrop Grumman Corporation is moving its headquarters from California to Northern Virginia.

In a statement, Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell says the relocation will create 300 new jobs in the Commonwealth. The move will let the firm be closer to its key customers in the U.S. government. The Company had been deciding whether to choose Virginia or Maryland for its new headquarters.

A company official tells the Associated Press the site will be either in western Fairfax County, near Dulles Airport, or in the Crystal City area of Arlington close to the Pentagon.

An official announcement is expected later today.
