Today is the federal tax filing deadline, and tax mailings must be postmarked by today to avoid paying a penalty and interest.
A handful of post offices will be open this evening for anyone who needs a few extra hours to complete their tax forms. Several around the region will be open until 8 p.m.:
Friendship District Post Office-Washington, D.C.
Hampton Park Post Office-Capitol Heights, Maryland.
Merrifield Post Office-Merrifield, Virginia.
And for those hard-core procrastinators, the National Capitol Post Office will be open until 11:58 p.m. to get that April 15th postmark.
