The 2010 baseball season for the Washington Nationals starts today, and the team is urging fans to arrive with plenty of time to spare for the game, which starts early this afternoon.
Gates open at 10 a.m., but crowds may start to build well before that, with fans hoping to see President Obama throw out the ceremonial first pitch. The game itself is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Mr. Obama's pitch marks the 100th anniversary of presidential first pitches, with President William Howard Taft throwing out the very first on this same day in 1910.
Today the Nationals face off against the reigning National League champion Philadelphia Phillies.
The Nationals are coming off back-to-back 100-loss seasons.
