WASHINGTON (AP) A documentary charting Washington's rise following the riots of 1968 through the 1970s is premiering on public television.

The show premiering Monday night explores race relations and the D.C. statehood movement, the development of Metro and the first pandas at the National Zoo. And there's the stories of the Washington Redskins, Bullets and Capitals.

It also looks at the cultural scene, with the opening of the Kennedy Center and Wolf Trap in Virginia, as well as the National Air and Space Museum and the East Building of the National Gallery of Art.

Longtime CNN anchor Bernard Shaw narrates "Washington in the 70s," produced by WETA-TV. It picks up from a documentary on 1960s Washington that aired last fall. The show will air for several weeks.
