The bus stops here at University Drive and New Hampshire Avenue are scattered across the intersection's four corners. Transferring from one bus to another requires navigating several lanes of traffic.
That's about to change. Within two years, all the bus stops here will be merged into a multi-million dollar bus transit center, featuring better lighting and a full canopy.
The center will be funded by a stimulus grant called TIGER - that stands for Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery.
In addition to the new bus transit center, the D.C. region's TIGER grant will also go towards outfitting bus stops with computer displays. The displays will provide real-time information on where buses are and when the next one will arrive.
