WASHINGTON (AP) The number of foreclosure filings in the Washington area ticked up less than 2 percent in 2009. The online foreclosure-tracking company RealtyTrac says filings in the area increased to about 56,300 from about 55,400.

WASHINGTON (AP) Gay couples likely will be able to apply March 2 for marriage licenses in the nation's capital. That's the day the city now projects a bill it passed last month legalizing same-sex marriage goes into effect. They won't be able to marry on that day because of a waiting period.
