Legislative Session Starts In Maryland

Maryland's legislative session starts today in Annapolis, and some lawmakers are looking to increase the state's alcohol tax.

Opponents of the tax argue it would cost restaurants, bars, and other places that serve alcohol jobs. Delegate Bill Bronrott of Bethesda, who wants to increase the tax 10 cents a drink, says that's not true.

This is also an election year, further dimming prospects for the bill, as many lawmakers are reluctant to face voters shortly after raising taxes.
