(January 14) SOMETHING BEYOND GREATNESS The Meditation Museum gives visitors something to ponder beyond power, wealth and prestige. The authors of the book Something Beyond Greatness will appear tomorrow night at 6:30 at the mind-body-soul hub in Silver Spring, Maryland. The authors will discuss their book and lead an exploration into the noble characteristics of ordinary lives, in an event dedicated to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

(January 15) ALBUS CAVUS CORE CURRICULUM The DC-based public arts group Albus Cavus is hosting workshops for children through May. This Friday night is a fundraiser at The Fridge arts center near the Eastern Market metro from 8 to 11. Attendees can help sponsor the Albus Cavus Classroom, which teaches youth to create public murals and sculptures. There will be music by local Indie/folk musician Aaron Thompson.

(January 16) BALALAIKA SYMPHONY The Music Center at Strathmore hosts a symphony of balalaikas in North Bethesda this Saturday night at 8 p.m. The American Balalaika Symphony brings the music of 19th century Russia to 21st century Maryland, with balalaikas accompanied by the unique sound of the button accordion and the shimmering horizontal table harp.

Nutrition Group Says Chocolate Milk Is OK, No Need For Aspartame

The nation's largest group of nutritionists is urging the FDA to reject the dairy industry's petition to change the definition of milk. The petition aims to allow aspartame or other alternatives to be used to sweeten milk in an effort to boost consumption in schools.

Lois Lerner, who heads the IRS division dealing with nonprofits seeking tax-exempt status, will not testify on Wednesday despite a congressional subpoena, her attorney says. She is accused of closely scrutinizing conservative groups that sought tax-exempt status.

Microsoft unveiled its new Xbox One Tuesday, displaying a device that takes new steps in game consoles' journey into becoming all-purpose entertainment and communication devices. The new console replaces the Xbox 360, which has been on the market for more than seven years.
