The University of Virginia's new president says she has some big shoes to fill.

Teresa Sullivan is UVA's first new president in two decades. She succeeds John Casteen, who not only has kept the university near the top of the collegiate-ranking charts, but has kept the school afloat in tough financial times.

When he became president in 1980, more than a quarter of the university's budget came from state funds. Now, it's just seven percent.

In introductory remarks yesterday, Sullivan called Casteen "a hard act to follow." Sullivan comes to UVA from the University of Michigan, where she serves as provost and executive vice president for academic affairs. She steps into her new post on August 1st.
