WAYNESBORO, Va. (AP) More than 2,500 animals received treatment at the Wildlife Center of Virginia last year, including 40 bald eagles. The center said Tuesday that its 2009 caseload of injured, sick and orphaned wildlife was the highest since 2004. The number of bald eagles admitted was a single-year record.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) Virginia's next education secretary is an advocate for school choice and charter schools. Gerard Robinson was introduced today as Governor-elect Bob McDonnell's secretary of education.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) About 80 members of the Virginia National Guard are being mobilized for duty in Afghanistan. Major General Robert Newman Junior, the adjutant general of Virginia, says the Virginia Beach-based 529th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 329th Regional Support Group will begin federal active duty March 20th.
