A millionaire developer says he won't challenge D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty in this year's election.

R. Donahue Peebles said he was ready to spend up to $8 million dollars to be Washington's next mayor but now says, he can't run.

Peebles says his mother-in-law is sick and says supporting his family comes first.

His statement came only a day after he said there was a high probability he would run.

Peebles is a real estate developer with a fortune estimated by Forbes magazine to be $350 million. He was considering funding his campaign entirely on his own.

D.C. Council Chairman Vincent Gray and at-large council members Kwame Brown and Michael Brown have said they're thinking about running for mayor. But nine months before the Democratic primary, Mayor Fenty has no widely known or well-funded challengers.
